Hotels seeking direct bookings should give customers 'no excuse' to leave websites

Guestline Blog·22 March 2018
Ben Ireland, Deputy news editor at Travel Weekly and Travolution reporter recently attended one of Guestline's Connect events in London and summarises his findings below;Hotels should give customers 'no excuse' to leave their payment pages by removing any offers or barriers to confirmation if they want to drive direct bookings. A panel of online hospitality marketing experts hosted by tech provider Guestline debated how hotels can increase direct bookings at the Bulgari Hotel in London on Thursday. Satyan Joshi, business leader at Google's Hotel Ads encouraged hotel managers to book their own properties as if they were a customer and said upselling should come after booking is confirmed to prevent it putting customers off. 'When [customers] are in a position to give you their money, don't give them an excuse to leave [your hotel's website],' he said. 'Don't show them offers on your payment page.'

Help - How can I afford the latest hospitality software technology for my hotel?

Guestline Blog·22 January 2018
The Hospitality industry is starting to adopt and embrace the benefits of technology leasing. Take the cloud model as an example - essentially the key difference between this model and more traditional technology leasing is that the hardware is stored in a data centre and of course the software is hosted there as well. Costings should not be an insurmountable barrier to optimising your technology set up in order to harness your property’s potential when it comes to using the latest software tools available.

Karma Sanctum Soho Hotel, located in the heart of London’s buzzing West End, is the latest in a succession of luxury boutique hotels to enjoy an increase in revenue and ADR following the implementation of Guestline’s web based property management and distribution systems. Previously incurring problems with their on-premise solution with failed servers and restrictive access, the team were keen to implement a more reliable, cloud hosted system to assist in the day-to-day management of the hotel. The hotel wanted a more efficient, multi-functional property management system that seamlessly integrated with a channel manager and online booking module from a company that provided a more prompt, UK support facility.

The hospitality industry must take a strategic approach to tackling cyber security.

Guestline Blog·23 November 2017
As the range of technology platforms and tools continues to expand and evolve, so too does the risk of a cyber-attack and the strain on a company's operations that comes with it. Such a risk is becoming an increasing challenge for both the hospitality industry and the wider leisure industry as firms become ever more reliant on technology to facilitate payments, for example, in addition to the general move towards cloud computing. Official figures value the cost of cybercrime to the UK economy at £10.9 billion in 2015-16 (according to data from Get Safe Online and Action Fraud, published in October 2016).

Guestline CTO talks about future proofing your hotel business

Guestline Blog·10 October 2017
Most of the technology industry has moved towards the idea of seamless integration and data flows, enabling richer functionality and greater potential to enhance that functionality too. It is hard to ever fully know how the hospitality industry will evolve in a similar vein. In some ways the sector has been slower – up until now – to adopt the integrated mindset as comprehensively as other industries. For instance, many hotels still host much of their system within their premises, largely due to the need for a physical presence. Encouragingly, more office-related systems are now hosted in the cloud, enabling workers to access systems remotely and therefore also allow the integration of other remotely-hosted systems.

Cyber experts have warned that the travel industry as a whole is particularly exposed to criminal activity

Guestline Blog·20 July 2017
At a special Travel Weekly summit, a group of travel experts examined the growing threat from cyber criminals and what travel firms can do to protect themselves from attack. We heard from experts in cybercrime and data security. It covered fraud, security, cyber-crime, compliance, payments, data, company structures to cope with all this and disaster recovery. In the hospitality industry, as in the wider travel industry, it has become vital that IT security is given priority focus as firms become increasingly global, embrace new forms of payment, outsource to third-party Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions and move to cloud computing. The threat of cybercrime has never been so acute as some major companies outside of the travel sector have found to their cost. Indeed, most recently here in the UK we have also seen the widespread chaos in the NHS that the huge ransomware attack brought about.
